Lost wax jewelry

Lost-wax jewelry is a jewelry tenchnique taht sytrats from wax modeling, a very ancient culptural procedure (alredy used by Greeks en the 6th and 5th centuries BC) wich is udes to obtain metal figures, for means of a mold which is made from a prototype molded with wwax.

In the market you can find different types of wax. Thus we find blue or green wax, which is distributed in blocks, sticks, tubes, threads and in different forms. We also find pink wax, which is generally presented in sheets. And finally we find the red wax, which has a plasticity very similar to plasticine and is very easy to mold. There are a few more types but these are the main ones.

The work of this wax gives rise to the model or prototype. Once done, you have to pass this piece to the metal. It's about casting process. To do so, the foundrymen make a mold of the piece, usually plaster. With the pieces of wax they make a tree, hanging all the pieces together from a central tube of wax. The plaster has exit holes, also made by wax tubes. The plaster is put at high temperatures with the use of an oven. They then melt the metal and insert it into the plaster. The plaster is destroyed and all the pieces are made of metal.

Once you have the piece, all that remains is the process of polishing it and giving it the final touches.

The resulting pieces are unique and unrepeatable. You can copy the work but you will never get the same part. There is a trick so that thousands os the same can be obtained from one piece, but this secret I leave you to discover for yourselves.
