The Foundry
We are going to tell you what the Casting process consists of. When we make a lost wax jewel we have to pass the wax prototype to the metal and this is done neither more nor less than with the casting.
There are jewelers who do it themselves, we don't have the high-temperature oven to do it, so we take it to a specialized site that does it for us. In the city there are many. We take it to Fundición Ángel Reguera, at 106 Viladomat street.
They have told us how this process is carried out. When you bring them one or more wax jewelry, the first thing they do is place long tubes of wax in the wax piece. They put many pieces together and solder them all to a central wax shaft.
Next, a plaster preparation is prepared in the same way that plaster is made anywhere, the tree is introduced into a container and flooded with plaster.
The plaster is then introduced into a high-temperature oven and the wax is melted, leaving the exact shape of the jewelery model empty and in full detail.
Then all they do is melt the desired metal and introduce it into the tree, the metal occupying the space of the plaster. All that remains is to demould the plaster, which is done with nothing more and nothing less than water, and separate the pieces that remain together on the tree. Then there will be a laborious job of polishing and finishing.
